ABOUT

Queen Mary is a neighborhood cocktail tavern in Wicker Park with a history dating to the late 1940s, when it was one of seven taverns on the block of Division Street between Hoyne and Leavitt. Landlady Maria Kafka operated the bar with her husband, until a family tragedy led her to to shutter it in 1975 and leave it virtually untouched for forty years.

Familiar with the history and interested in giving the former Polish tavern new life, Matt Eisler and Kevin Heisner formed a friendship with Kafka, and with her blessing, dubbed their iteration of the tavern ‘Queen Mary’ in her honor.

The time-capsule bar, opened in November 2015, took original inspiration from the British naval drinking tradition, serving fine maritime spirits, cocktails and fortified wines with warm hospitality, seven days a week.
